Mrs. Cecil Madsen Laid to Rest in Nevada Cemetery
Funeral services for Mrs. Cecil Madsen, who passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26th after an illness of almost two years, were held from the Hamilton funeral home in Des Moines Thursday afternoon at 1:30 with burial in the family lot in Nevada cemetery.
Her pastor, Rev. Barker of the Trinity Methodist church in Des Moines, conducted the last rites. Rev. F. A. Smith of the Nevada Methodist church, gave a prayer at the graveside.
Obituary
Hazle Winnifred Madsen was born at Madrid, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1905, oldest daughter of Nels and Lulul Johnson.
She moved to Nevada with her parents at the age of five and attended the Nevada schools where she graduated with the class of 1924. She taught for three years in the rural schools of Story County.
She joined the Methodist church in Nevada at the age of 13, later transferring her membership to Trinity Methodist church in Des Moines where she made her home the past 24 years.
She was united in marriage to Cecil E. Madsen, March 4, 1927, and to this union were born three daughters and one son: Lynette, Mrs. Dwight Seaman; Geraldine, Mrs. Frank Lovia; Janice, Mrs. Bill Eakin and Richard, at home all of Des Moines.
Her children together with her husband Cecil, and five grandchildren are left to mourn her passing, as well as her mother and step father, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whitmore of Nevada; her brother, Gerald Johnson of Ruthven and sister, Crystal, Mrs. C. E. Ostrich of Maxwell.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nels Johnson, in 1915 and little brother, Elmo in 1916.
Mrs. Madsen was a loving and devoted wife and mother and received a lot of enjoyment form her grandchildren. She had many friends and they as well as all her family were always welcomed in her home.
She was an active member of the P.T.A. and Worth While club when her health permitted.
