Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, Friday afternoon, Nov. 23 at two p.m., with pastor C. A. Gisselquist officiating. Robert Weeks, soloist, sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say," accompanied by Mrs. Harold Olson at the organ. Chaplain M.C. Hagedorn brought a message and greeting from Bethany Manor.

Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Pall bearers were William Starkey, Leslie K. Jacobson, John S. Egenes, Amos Ihle, Edgar M. Ose and Truman Brown.

Mrs. Bertha Gandrup, the daughter of T. T. and Britta Ryan [sic] was born November 4, 1878 at Slater. She was baptized and confirmed in the Fjeldbert Lutheran church near Huxley.

*She was united in marriage to Arthur W. Gandrup in 1896 who preceded her in death February 29, 1932. Bertha lived most of her life in Story County, except 15 years, when she and her husband operated a drug store at Laurel and Clemons Grove, near Marshalltown before moving back to Story City in 1916.

She was active in church work and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. She was also a charter member of the E.C.K. Federated Club.

Mrs. Gandrup passed away at Story City Bethany Manor Tuesday morning November 20 at the age of 95 years. She had been a resident there for eleven years.

She is survived by one son, Burton Gandrup of Story City; three grand children: Harry Gandrup of Nevada, Wallace Gandrup, Story City and Mrs. Gene (Louise) McKeever, Freeport, Illinois; six great grand children; and four great-great grandchildren (five generations), also, one sister, Mrs. Tena Ihle of Story City Bethany Manor.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Bertha Ryen married first Thomas Hulderson, son of Ole Hulderson and Anna Arntz/Arnevig, on 28 September 1899 in Slater, Story County, Iowa. They had a son, Burton E. Hulderson later known as Burton E. Gandrup after Bertha's marriage to Arthur W. Gandrup.
