DEATHS
Mrs. Emma Johnson
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Johnson of Story City were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23.
The Rev. Ernest T. Thompson of Huxley and the Rev. M.C. Hagedorn of Bethany Manor, Story City, conducted the service.
A vocal trio, three granddaughters of Mrs. Johnson, sang "Softly and Tenderly, Jesus is Calling." The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." Organist was Mrs. Noel Larson.
Pallbearers were Robert Ritland, Richard Johnson, Darryl Johnson, Bruce Johnson, Fay Reitz Jr. and Gary Reitz.
Interment was in the Palestine Cemetery.
Emma Sorina Johnson was born in Polk County, Iowa on November 29, 1877 to parents Mr. and Mrs. Richard Richardson.
In 1896, she was untied in marriage to Oliver A. Johnson. To this union nine children were born.
Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, July 20 at the Story City Hospital.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lenora Ritland of Marshalltown, Mrs. Ruth Field of Forest City and Mrs. Fay Reitz of Ames; three sons, Roy of Polk City, Howard of Des Moines and Orville of Ankeny; 18 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Regina Weeks of Milltown, Wis. and a brother Knute Richardson of Newton.
Preceding her in death were her husband in 1914; two sons, Truman 1962 and Norman in 1966, and an infant daughter.
