Obituaries
Stella R. Nassen
Funeral services for Stella R. Nassen, 73, were held Saturday, August 23 at 10 a.m. from Story City Bethany Manor Chapel and at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City with Pastor C. A. Gisselquist officiating. Rev. Ernest Caltvedt officiated at the Family Prayer Service.
Miss Louise Olson accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Sansgaard at they sang "Living for Jesus" and "God's Way Is the Best Way."
Pall bearers were Ernest Sansgaard, Larry Beaty, Rev. Ernest Caltvedt, Sanford Duea, Merle Durby and Marlo Durby. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.
Stella R. Nassen was born September 18, 1901 near Roland, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Maren Durby. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Bergen Lutheran Church, Roland and was educated in a county school near Roland, and attended Roland High School.
On August 20, 1921 she was united in marriage to Harvey M. Nassen. They farmed for 25 years in Story County retiring from farming in Wright County in 1960. They moved to Story City in 1962.
In 1971 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary prior to Mr. Nassen's passing away in 1972.
Mrs. Nassen had been a resident of Story City Bethany Manor the past three years. She passed away at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines having suffered a heart attack Thursday, August 21.
Surviving are five children: two sons, Harland and Paul Nassen both of Denver, Colorado, three daughters Mrs. Marie Baker, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mrs. Leon (Ruby) of Dickins, Iowa, Mrs. Harlan (Myrtle) Harper, Jr. of Radcliffe, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Lydia Sansgaard of Story City, Mrs. Victor Duea and Mrs. Bernice Caltvedt, both of Roland, Mrs. John (Palma) Beaty of Marshalltown, Laurence Durby of Stanhope, and Ben Durby of Roland.
Her parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
