TWO TRAGIC DEATHS AT STORY CITYBICYCLE RIDER WHEELED BEFORE ONCOMING AUTO
LITTLE KERMIT HENDERSON FATALLY INJURED ON STORY CITY STREET.
Special to the Journal.
Story City, June 29--Kermit Henderson, age 9 years, is dead here today, as a result of injuries received at a late hour Sunday afternoon, when he rode his bicycle in front of an automobile driven by E. J. Ritland of near McCallsburg, on Broad street, near the city park. The death of the Henderson lad but intensified the pale of gloom that he hovered over the community since the news of the tragic death of Erwin Ahrens, who drowned in the Des Moines river, near the Frazier dam a few hours earlier.
Mr. Ritland, with his family was on his way out of the city, when the Henderson lad, on his wheel dodged out from a side street and directly in front of the oncoming car, which it was impossible to stop in time to miss the boy on his bicycle.
The injured boy was picked up and carried to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Henderson, where his external injuries were cared for, but t was evident from the start that he was injured internally, and in spite of the tireless working of attending physicians, he passed away at 6 o'clock Monday morning.
