From Nevada Representative March 3, 1897 (page 7)

Jas. Green Dead.

James Green passed away at his home in this city early Friday morning, after an illness of about three weeks. The chief cause of his illness was an abcess of the liver; but the immediate occasion of his death was the breaking of an abcess in the lungs as the result of which he was virtually smothered. His funeral was conducted from the Catholic church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Hennessy.

The deceased was born in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1853, and was 48 years of age. He came to Nevada in 1857 with his parents, who were long known and are yet affectionately remembered as "Pappy" and "Mammy" Green. He grew up here in Nevada, attended the village school, and spent here practically all his life. One year, however, he spent near Yankton, Dakota, where he was married in 1879 to Miss Ella Furlong. From this union have been born four children, three boys and one girl, whose ages grade from sixteen to five.

"Jimmy" Green was in his youth a good boy; and as a man he commanded the affectionate regard of all who knew him. He was a better manager for others than for himself, and he leaves his family in straightened circumstances; but their inheritance of a good reputation and a sunny character has not been valueless, for his many friends have promptly raised a sum sufficient to clear his little home from mortgage and to more than pay the expenses of his last sickness and burial. A good name is rather to be desired than great riches, and James Green has not left his widow and orphans portionless.
