Held Funeral Services for Mrs. John Thompson Pioneer Collins Woman

Collins, July 26--Funeral services for the late Mrs. Ann Elizabeth Thompson, widow of the late John Thompson who passed away Friday forenoon at the home of her daughter Mrs. Rhoda Jones at Collins, were held Sunday at 2:00 p. m. from the Church of Christ with her pastor the Rev. Chas. Neel in charge.

A quartet composed of Mrs. K. W. Tomlinson, Mrs. Jesse Torry, Chas. Shearer and Tom Huntrods with Mrs. Hugh Fertig as pianist sang two songs, "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and "In the Sweet By and By." Mrs. Tomlinson sang "Some Day I'll Understand" as a solo. The many beautiful floral offerings were arranged by Mrs. Walter Holmes and Mrs. Chas. Shearer.

Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Collins by the side of her husband, with the following close friends of the family as pallbearers: C. G. Vasey, Clark Chambers, Elsworth Campbell, J. E. Hale, R. G. Patton and P. J. Weinch.

The following obituary was read by the pastor:

Ann Elizabeth Angelo, daughter of Samuel W. and Rhoda Burwell Angelo, was born Sept. 29, 1848 and passed away July 22, 1938 at the home of her daughter Mrs. Rhoda Jones at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 22 days.

She was born in Illinois near Jacksonville and later with her parents with her parents came to Iowa and in 1853 located in Polk county near Rising Sun. Four years later or in 1857 they located on a farm in Jasper county where she grew to womanhood. On the first day of January 1866 she was united in marriage to John Thompson of Collins. Two children were born to this union, Walter H. Thompson of Collins and Mrs. Rhoda Jones of Collins, at whose home she spent the past eleven years of her life. Mr. Thompson passed away February 12, 1923.

She was one of the founders of the local Church of Christ and was an active worker in early life. She was also a charter member of the Collins Chapter O. E. S. and the first Worthy Matron of the chapter. At the time of her death she was the oldest resident of Collins. She leaves besides her son and daughter, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great-grandson, as well as numerous other more distant relatives and friends.

Mrs. Thompson lived a long and active life in this community. She was a loving mother and kindly neighbor and friend. She will be greatly missed by her children and long remembered by all. Relatives and friends from a distance attending the services were John B. Thompson of Waterloo, Mrs. Forrest Graef, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Graef, John Graef, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Angelo all of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Angelo of Newton, Charles Angelo of Burlington, Okla., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fawcett of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Corbitt of State Center, and Miss Myra Ozmun of Maxwell and possibly others.
