Funeral Rites of H. J. Liggett at Maxwell Tuesday
Maxwell, Sept 27 -- Masonic rites were held Tuesday morning at the Cooper Funeral Chapel here for H. J. Liggett, 83, whose body was shipped here from Denver, Colo., for burial.
The services were in charge of Rev. J. C. Turner, pastor of the Methodist church and members of Herald Lodge No. 455, A. F. & A. M. The ritualistic services were in charge of Rev. C. E. Burdine, acting as Worshipful Master in the absence of A. M. Christy.
Pallbearers were members of the local lodge, including Roland Coughenour, C. B. French, H. C. Larsen, Foss Allen and Boyd and Clark Martin.
Mr. Liggett was a resident of Maxwell some 45 years ago, when he was manager of the Baldwin & Maxwell, large merchandise store and will be remembered by many of the older residents. His death was due to a cerebral thrombosis.
He leaves three sons, Howard J., with whom he made his home at Virden, Ill., and William and Robert, both of whom are doctors in Denver, Colo.
Burial was made in the family lot in the Maxwell cemetery beside his wife, Nellie, who died in 1918.
