Native Story County Woman Laid to Rest This Afternoon

The body of Mrs. Sherman T. Shaw, 69, who died at her home southeast of Nevada Thursday forenoon, was laid to rest in the Nevada cemetery this afternoon, following funeral services at Memorial Lutheran church at 2:30, with her pastor Dr. J. O. Simon in charge.

The church was filled to capacity by sorrowing relatives and friends gathered to pay a final tribute of love and respect to one whom they had known so long and loved so well.

In the passing of Mrs. Shaw, Memorial church loses its oldest member in point of years she belonged to the church.

The music and other parts of the service were simple yet impressive, and the floral tributes were many and beautiful.

The story of the life of Mrs. Shaw as read by her pastor who had known her so well, follows.

"Nettie Hauge [sic], daughter of Alonzo B. and Anna Elizabeth Hague was born near Johnson Grove, Story county, Iowa, July 26, 1865. She departed this life at her late home south of Nevada, September 3, 1934, having reached the age of 69 years one month and 10 days. Nettie was one of six children. Two brothers and one sister survive her passing. They are Edward Hague and John Hague of Tacoma, Washington and Mrs. Mamie Hicks of Thermopolis, Wyo.

"Nettie Hague was united in the holy bonds of marriage to Sherman T. Shaw on March 1, 1894. The marriage was performed by the Rev. A. B. Shrader, then pastor of Memorial Lutheran church, Nevada. To this unions were born five children, all living. They are: Earle H. Shaw, Nevada; Don H. Shaw, Nevada; Leslie M. Shaw, Des Moines and Miss Alta Shaw at home.

"When a young woman she united with the Memorial Lutheran church by baptism. This was in March, 1882. Mrs. Shaw was the oldest living member of the church in point of years she has been a member.

"In the days of her young womanhood she removed from Story county, to Alliance, Nebr. where she lived for about five years. Aside from those years spent in Nebraska, her entire life has been lived in Story county, Iowa.

"Mr. and Mrs. Shaw began their married life on a farm north of Colo, where they live for six years. Then they moved to the present home south of Nevada, where they have spent the last 34 years of their life.

"Mrs. Shaw has been a devoted wife and mother giving the best of her life to her home and her loved ones. She has been a diligent helpmate, taking her place by the side of her husband aiding in all the affairs of home in attaining a position of affluence in the community in which they lived.

"Mrs. Shaw was possessed of a cheerful and happy disposition, endearing herself to all who knew her.

"She placed her trust in God in her childhood and throughout her entire life she has abided in the sheltering care of her Lord and Saviour.

"Today we lay tenderly away in God's Acre the outworn body that had been the tabernacle of a noble spirit for over 69 years. No the spirit has returned to God who gave it.

"Besides the immediate family Mrs. Shaw leaves a hot of friends and neighbors who are saddened by her death. These all, with one accord, extend their sincerest sympathy to this family now so sorely bereft."
