MRS. APPLEGATE IS DEAD IN CALIFORNIA

FORMER NEVADA WOMAN VICTIM OF STROKE--DIED WEDNESDAY NIGHT

Mrs. Maude Applegate, 66, died Wednesday night at the home of her sister, Mrs. Fannie Lash, in Santa Ana, Calif., according to word received tgoday by her daughter, Mrs. Lulu Christy.

Mrs. Applegate, whose husband Mark Applegate*, died about four years ago, had suffered a stroke of apoplexy a few months ago and her death was not unexpected.

The Applegates were pioneers in the community south of Nevada near Cambridge. After retiring from the farm they moved into Nevada and live here for several years before going to California.

She leaves two sons and two daughters. The sons are Robert of California and Arthur of the Cambridge neighborhood, while the daughters are Mrs. Lulu Christy of south of Nevada and Mrs. Fern Elliott of Waukee.

While particulars regarding the death and funeral arrangements are not available, it is presumed that the body will be brought back to Nevada and funeral and interment will be here. The husband, who died in California, was returned here for interment.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Maud Clara Bailey aka Clara Maud Bailey was married to Marshall Morris Applegate (not Mark Applegate as stated above) on 26 August 1885 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
