SAM BRITSON DEAD; A DOUBLE FUNERAL

BROTHER TO MRS. DANIELSON WHO DIED EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING

Special to the Journal.
Roland, Aug. 1--With the death of Sam Britson, 78, at his home here Thursday afternoon, comes the announcement that there will be double funeral held at Bergen church, Sunday afternoon at 3:00 for Mr. Briston and his half sister*, Mrs. Lena Danielson, who died here Wednesday.

Mr. Britson, a native of Norway, where he was born June 20, 1852, came to America with his people when he was a small lad and he had lived practically all of his life in or near Roland. For many years he was a farmer on a farm just east of town.

He leaves his wife, whose maiden name was Sarah Grindem and to whom he was married in 1887; a son of E. J. Britson of McCallsburg, a daughter Mr. Sam Bakka of Roland, a brother Brit Britson of Roland and a sister Mrs. Hanna Sexe of Nevada.

On son Cyrus died when a boy. He also leaves 20 grand-children and 2 great grand-children.

Mr. Britson had suffered a stroke of paralysis early in the year from which he had been a sufferer, but it was week ago yesterday that the stroke come that eventually caused his death, leaving him in a state of coma from which he never rallied.

The half sister* Mrs. Danielson died Wednesday morning and it has now been arranged for double funeral. There will be services at the homes at 2:00 and the funeral at the church at 3:00. In the absence of their pastor, Rev. Sumstadt of Bergen church, the service will be in charge of Rev. W. B. Scarvie of Story City.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Sjur Halvorsson "Sam" Hauge was the son of Haldor Hauge and Martha Sjurdotter Hauge. Sam immigrated to Kendall County, Illinois, from Norway in 1854, when he was about two years old. It was in Illinois that his mother married a widower, Shur Britson. Sam then took the Britson name.

While "Sam" was born in 1852, Lena (Britson) Danielson (termed here his "half-sister") was born in 1847. Being older than Sam, and her father a widower when he married Sam's mother, it safe to assume she was a daughter of Shur Britson's first marriage and is therefore a actually a step-sister.
