JOHN TURKINGTON VICTIM OF CANCER
FUNERAL WILL BE HELD AT METHODIST CHURCH ON THURSDAY
John Turkington, 74, longtime resident of Story county, died at his home 526 Sixth street, Nevada Monday evening at 5:30, death being caused by cancer of the stomach and liver.
The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30, at the Methodist church, Nevada and interment will be in the local cemetery.
John Turkington was born April 16, 1856, at Derrycrow, Ireland of Scotch and English parentage.
He came to America with his mother when a lad of five years and grew to manhood in Pennsylvania.
He came west in his early manhood and was in Iowa, and later in the far west, but finally returned to Story county and located on a farm in Richland township in 1880.
He was united in marriage to Helen Bailey of Bristol, Pennsylvania, Sept. 10, 1890 and one son Ernest B., now of Nevada, was born to this union.
It was in 1900 that Mr. Turkington brought a small farm just in the north edge of the city of Nevada and located on it. There he continued to live for several years until the son was arrived and took up the active farm work, and Mr. and Mrs. Turkington Sr., retired and move into Nevada taking up their residence at 526 Sixth street where their home had since been.
He leaves his wife, the one son and three grandsons, besides a wide circle of friends.
Mr. Turkington as a man oaf industry and integrity, and of fine ideals and characteristics and leaves a circle of neighbors and friends who will join with the family in mourning his death.
