MRS. ANNA GROVE ROLAND PIONEER DIED THERE TODAY

WAS ONE OF REAL PIONEERS OF THAT PARK OF THE COUNTY

Roland, March 17--Mrs. Anna C. Grove, 88, died at her home here at noon today after an illness of about a year.

Mrs. Grove, a native of Etne, Norway, a daughter of Rasmus and Ingeborg Sheldahl, came to America when a maiden of five years. The family first settled at Lisbon, Illinois, but came to Iowa and settled in the Roland community in 1850 and it was there that she was married to Mons Grove a few years later.

The family was among the founders of Salem Lutheran church at Roland and in that organization she had always been an acive and stalwart member.

The husband died 27 years ago and they are survived by five of their six children all of them lving in Story county. One daughter, Lorinda, died about a year ago. The others are Martin N. Grove of Ames, Mrs. Mary Teig of Roland and Mrs. Emma McCord of Collins.

Mrs. Grove was one of the last survivors of that little band of Norwegian settler who came out to Iowa from Illinois in covered wagons in 1855-56 and had so large a part in the progress and development of that part of Story county.

She was woman of the very finest character and had raised her family in the faith in which she as a child of Christian parents had been raised.

In the [----- ---] her church she centered her interests and her life had been all exerted toward the best interests of the community.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral services which will be held in her church at Roland later this week.
