PROMINENT ROLAND PEOPLE ARE DEAD

COMMUNITY MOURNS DEATH OF T. A. SOREM AND MRS. E. M. ROD

Roland, Jan. 17--Roland is mourning the death of two deeply beloved people today, both of whom have lived here nearly all of their lives and devoted much time to the upbuilding of the community.

T. A. Sorem, 62, co was operated on in a Des Moines hospital Tuesday, died last evening about 6:00. The body was brought at once to his home here and while definite funeral arrangements have not been made yet, it is thought that the services will be held Monday at Salem church.

Mr. Sorem, who came to the community when a lad of 12 years, had lived and prospered upon a farm and became one of the outstanding figures in the community, much admired and respected by all. For twelve years he had been deacon in the Salem Lutheran church and he had always been active in civic and church affairs.

The home was not blessed with children, but the wife will be joined by a wide circle of friends in mourning the death of the husband. He also leaves two sister, Mrs. H. Tjellmeland of Garden City and Mrs. A. J. Shold of near Roland.

Mrs. Rod Died Today

Mrs. E. M. Rod, another of the pioneer women of the community and on active in church work, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Overt Holland here at 11 o'clock today, after a week's illness. Yellow jaundice and pneumonia was the cause of the death.

Mrs. Rod came here as a girl with her parents from Illinois and it was here that she was married to Erik M. Rod, who died about 10 years ago.

She leaves five sons, and two daughters. The sons are M. O. Rod, Mandus J. Rod, Conrad Rod, Gerhard Rod and Arthur Rod, while the daughters are Mrs. Holland and Miss Esther Rod. The latter is a teacher at Arcadia and is the only one who is not located here permanently. She was home when the mother passed away, however. he also leaves two sisters, Mrs. O. J. Jacobson and Mrs. K. K. Teig, and a brother T. J. Jacobson.

The definite arrangements for the funeral of Mrs. Rod were not made at noon today.
