Jim was born November 24, 1923 in Niles, MI to the late James E. Warner and Mary Camp Warner. He graduated from Niles High School in 1941 and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1948. He also attended Western Michigan University. He served in the Army Air Corp during 1943 to 1945, including more than two years in the South Pacific (Philippines, then-Dutch New Guinea, and Japan).

He was a member of the public relations staff of the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn from 1955 until 1961 when he became a member of the Information Service Office staff at Iowa State University in Ames.

When Jim retired from Iowa State in 1986, he and Alice moved to Fort Collins, CO, for "one last adventure." In retirement, he continued to write for local publications and organizations. A sports enthusiast, he competed several years in the Rocky Mountain Senior Games and enjoyed golf and bowling with Fort Collins seniors.

He was preceded in death by his wife Alice, who died in 2010, and his parents.

He is survived by his son, David and his wife, Cecile, of Boulder and daughter, Carol of Fort Collins.
