Dr. Abdel-Aziz A. Fouad, a celebrated electrical engineering academic scholar and industry consultant, passed away at the age of 89 on October 21, 2017.
Dr. Fouad was a pioneer in the electrical engineering field of power systems dynamics and stability, most notably in his visionary contributions to academic research, teaching and publication, collaboration between academia and the power industry and early explorations of technology and social change. Amongst numerous professional recognitions, Dr. Fouad was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, was an Anson Marston Distinguished Professor, received the Anson Marston Medal from the ISU Alumni Foundation and was a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (“IEEE”).
Aziz Fouad was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1928, received a B.C. degree in engineering from the University of Cairo in 1950, immigrated to the USA in 1952 and received a master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1953 and a Ph.D from Iowa State University in 1956. While at the University of Iowa, Aziz met his wife of 56 years, Maria Elisabeth (Leal) Fouad, who pre-deceased him in 2009. Aziz and Elisabeth are survived by their two children, Nadya Fouad (Robert Leitheiser) and Sam H. Fouad (Jill Norman), five grandchildren: Nick Leitheiser (Erin), Andrew Leitheiser (Delia), Patrick Leitheiser, Noah Fouad and Mickaela Fouad and two great-grandchildren (Nolan and Elsa Leitheiser)
Dr. Fouad was a long time member of Rotary Club of Fort Collins, a contributing member of the Northern Colorado Senior Tennis League and the family has had a home in Glacier View Meadows in Livermore since 1983.
A celebratory memorial service for Aziz will be held at Allnutt Funeral Home in Fort Collins, Colorado on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2pm. Contributions in memory of Dr. Abdel-Aziz A. Fouad are requested to be directed to Elderhaus, 6813 S.
