Ullestad, Richard Clayton, age 87, of Ames, joined his soul mate of 63 years, Mary Lou, in heaven September 3, 2017.

A visitation will be held at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010) from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday September 9, 2017. The family will greet guests at Ascension Lutheran Church (2400 Bloomington Rd., Ames, IA 50010) on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 1pm to 2pm. with services to follow. Interment will follow services in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Richard was preceded in death by parents Helen and Elmer Ullestad; and brothers, Harold and Don. Richard is survived by sister, Eleanor, son David (Lynn), son Randy (Patricia), and daughter Deeann Forster, in addition to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard, born June 29, 1930, in Ames, Iowa, was a 1949 graduate of Ames High School, a Korean War veteran, and a 1958 graduate of the University of Iowa, followed by a long career in Human Resources ("Personnel") in Indiana, Illinois, and finally back home in Iowa.

Richard was an avid Iowa Hawkeye in the land of the Cyclones, an active member of his church and choir, and loved performing with Mary Lou in musicals & community theater groups.

The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the caregivers at Mary Greeley Hospice Care, and the folks at Bethany Life in Story City.

In Lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Legion or your favorite veterans support organization in Richard's name.
