Donovan Neil Soll, 91 of Nevada, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2017, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines.

Donovan was born March 5, 1926, in Hopeville, Iowa the son of Melville and Fatine (Friday) Soll. He graduated from Murray High School in 1944 and served in the Army infantry in Europe during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1946. On July 22, 1949, Donovan was united in marriage to Bette Lucille Sievers in Murray. He graduated from the University of Mortuary Science in Kansas City and worked as a funeral director until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the William F. Ball Legion Post #48 and VFW Post #2209 in Nevada. Donovan and Bette spent many winters in Arizona and Texas and loved attending events at the Moose Lodge in Ames. He enjoyed yardwork, watching boxing and supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Donovan is survived by his wife, Bette of Nevada; his children: Markay Soll of West Des Moines and Kendall (Dana) Soll of Nevada; his grandchildren: Jacob (Christy), Jessica and Kelli Soll; great-grandchildren: Silas and Stella Soll; and a brother, Elvin (Twyla) Soll of Murray, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Gregory in infancy; and two brothers: Irvin and Duane.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Graveside services with military honors will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 14, at the Murray Cemetery in Murray.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Iowa Chapter in memory of Donovan.
