Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Raymond Prior, 93, of Ames, passed away September 14, 2017 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 20 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 21, also at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Raymond Charles Prior was born January 2, 1924 to Lonzo R. and Rebecca J. (Winscot) Prior in Omaha, Nebraska. After attending high school in Omaha, he enlisted in the U.S Navy Air Corps on March 12, 1943. He served during WWII in the north Pacific as a crewman/tail gunner, attaining the rank of Aviation Machinist's Mate. Ray was awarded the Air Medal with two Gold Stars, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was Honorably Discharged on January 10, 1946.

Ray attended vocational school in Milford, Neb., and married Delores "Connie" McConnell November 8, 1947 in Omaha. He was employed by the Department of Energy in connection with Ames Lab at Iowa State University and retired in 1987.

Ray is survived by his son, R. James (Marlene) Prior of Ames; three grandchildren, Kara Prior, Isaac (Katie) Prior and Ana (Jim) Stage; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Connie; two sisters, Virginia Foos and Ruth Stinson; and one brother, David Swisher.
