Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Philip John Hermanson, 65, of rural Jewell died suddenly September 11, 2017 at his home near Jewell. A visitation will be Saturday September 16 from 2 to 4 at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City. A prayer service will be at 3:45.
Philip was born on May 13, 1952 in Story City to Robert Christian and Phyllis Jean (Malmanger) Hermanson. He graduated from Roland-Story High School in 1970 and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He married Karen Nelson in March of 1981. Philip was a truck driver mostly recently working for Almaco and Roland Transport.

He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, where he sang in the church choir. Philip enjoyed photography and had a love of nature. He was a very generous person who often displayed acts of random kindness and continually uplifted and encouraged people.

Philip is survived by his wife Karen of Jewell; a brother, Carl of Story City; two sisters, Anne Mundahl (Thomas) of St. Paul, MN and Sylvia Hermanson of Boulder, CO; a niece and nephew, Hannah Imankulov (Myktybek) and Noah Mundahl and a great niece and nephew, Kai and Mira Imankulov. Also special to Philip was his puppy Ace and two favorite cats, Greg and Sissel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phil will be missed for the man he was – a generous and unassuming companion. He had time to share a story or sing a song. He loved the land and all of God’s creation.
