ROLAND ROCKETS
Torres Thompson on of our aged and respected citizens died at his home here in Roland last week from the infirmities of old age. His sickness was of the long and lingering kind, having been confined to his bed for many months. Coming from the old country he settled near Roland where he resided for a long period of time but of late years he had resided here in Roland, where he was ever recognized as a just and up-right citizen. An old citizen said the other day "I never heard a man say an unkind word of Torris Thompson." That is certainly a tribute that falls to the lot of but few men. He leaves a wife and five sons, Torris the eldest is mail carrier on route 2, John who had resided in Des Moines connected with an automobile Co., Ed, one of our local jewelers, Osmund, editor of the Roland Record, Oscar, out local druggist. Aside from these numerous relatives and friends are left to mourn the loss of a just and God fearing man.

Torris Thompson died at home in Roland after a five months illness. He was native of Norway born on March 25, 1841, and died Oct 11 at Roland. The funeral was conducted from the Salem church and interment in the Roland cemetery. He leaves his aged wife and five sons.
