ZEARING

James Holcomb was born at Otsego, Ohio, Sept. 25, 1842 and died at Zearing, Iowa, July 15, 1913, aged 70 years, 5 months and 22 days. He was married to Mary E. Palmer who preceded him in 1885. To this union w one son, Orin Jr., was born who with his family of Kirksville, Mo., who survives him. He leaves to mourn his departure his son Orin Jr., three brothers, Chas. of Ohio, Henry and William of Zearing, Iowa, and one sister. Two brothers and one sister having gone on before. He moved in 1869 to Story county, Iowa, where he lived until 1885 when he again returned to his native home at Otsego, Ohio, where he lived until 1912 when he came to Kirksville, Mo., where he made his home with his son. About three weeks ago he came to Zearing, Iowa for a visit with relatives and friends and while here he was suddenly taken seriously ill, lasting only about one week when he passed on to his reward. He became a Christian and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in early life remaining faithful until death.

He served his country faithfully for about nine months during the Civil War, serving in Co. F, 7th Ohio.

The funeral service was conducted Friday, July 18, 1913 at 10 a. m. from the Evangelical church Rev. D. C. Busenberg officiating.
