Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Phyllis Ferguson, 84, of Ames, Iowa passed away on August 15, 2017 at Green Hills Health Care Center. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 18 at Adams Funeral Home in Ames. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19 at Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa.

Phyllis Emogene Ferguson was born December 21, 1932 to August and Lucille (Benna) Wenell in rural Albert City, Iowa. She grew up in Laurens and graduated from Laurens High School in 1951. After high school, she furthered her education by earning an Associates of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene degree from the University of Minnesota.

On October 3, 1953, Phyllis married Robert Ferguson at the Laurens United Methodist Church. After they moved to Ames, Phyllis worked for 30 years as a dental hygienist for Buck Dental Clinic, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames and enjoyed dancing, cross-stitching, and sewing. While her kids were young, she loved to travel and camp, visiting national parks and family along the way.

Phyllis is survived by her husband Robert Ferguson of Ames, IA; son Kevin (Vicky) Ferguson of Elmhurst, Ill.; six grandchildren, Tonya (Kirk Schultz) Ferguson, Stephanie (Jamie) Kilker, Kyle (Jenn) Ferguson, Kurtis (Lauren) Ferguson, Katie Ferguson, Rebecca Ferguson; two great-grandsons, Dexter and Jamison; and one great-granddaughter, Callie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Kerry Ferguson; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Ferguson; two brothers, Richard and Ron; and one sister, Janet.

Memorials may be addressed to Green Hills Health Care Center, 2210 Hamilton Drive, Ames, IA 50014.
