OBITUARY

LEW ABBOTT KILLED

Fatal Auto Accident at Bonner Springs, Kansas

Lew A. Abbott, the latter years of whose boyhood were spent in Nevada in the 80s and who has had not a few friends remaining here in later year, was killed in an automobile accident Sunday evening at or near his home in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Particulars of the accident are lacking but he was engaged in the garage and automobile livery business and it is very possible that the accident was to his own automobile. The Abbott family came to Nevada from Cedar Falls and it is there that Mr. Abbott senior and Will Abbott, the elder son are buried. Homer N. Silliman of Cedar Falls, who was an especial friend here of Lew Abbott was requested by the family to go to Bonner Springs, and the inference is drawn that the body will be taken to Cedar Falls for burial in the family plot there.

The deceased was around forty five years of age, and as a youth he is remembered to have been bright, active, red-headed good natured and promising. As a man his reputation has been of genuine worth. His family in later years has consisted of his wife, daughter and son, respectively Ruth and Homer, and his mother who is now quite old and understood to be considerably broken in health. To this family his tragic death must be a fearful blow, which will evoke for them a very large measure of sympathy.

Lew Abbott was one of a recognized bunch of boys that grew up here together and were mutually very much attached. Homer Silliman, before mentioned, was another of the bunch and the remaining four were Frank M. Thompson, George M. Bechtel, Sam M. Fegtly and Warren Davison. Three years ago last summer the whole six of them, some of them coming from long distances, had a reunion and house party at the home of Homer Silliman in Cedar Falls. They were a good bunch, several of whom have scored very noticeable success in life and all of whom have justified the early expectation entertained concerning them and that reunion was undoubtedly a great event in the lines of all of them. Of the six Abbott is now the first to pass over the divide.
