FORMER M. E. PASTOR KILLED

Rev. Fletcher Brown Victim of a Runway

The sad and startling news has been received by many friends in this city of the accidental death of Rev. Fletcher Brown of Indianola, formerly pastor of the Methodist church in this city, and a frequent visitor here in the years since his retirement from the local pastorate. The accident occurred on Thursday of last week at Mr. Brown's farm in South Dakota, where it appears a team got scared at a traction engine and ran away and ran over him. He was variously injured; but the matter seems not to have gotten into the newspapers, and the first advice received here was in the notice of his death and funeral the fore part of this week.

Dr. Brown was around sixty years of age and in his youth he was a college chum of Congressman Prouty with who his relations had continued through life. He had been in all his active years a member of the Des Moines conference and strong his pastorates and been one of two years in the '90s at Nevada. More prominently, however, he had been engaged in the staff and executive work of the conference having served for a time as president of Simpson College and more continuously as financial agent of the college and promoter of a fund for the pensioning of superannuated preachers. He was an man of marked ability and force of a very great value to his church organizations and of wide reputation and high standing in the state. He had been in Nevada recently at the funeral for the late Mrs. Dunkelbarger and still more recently on business connected with the settlement of the estate, for which he had been an executor. His relations with his old friends in Nevada [-------- ----] never been broken or permitted to lapse and his sudden death is to them a matter of great [sorrow?].
