From Stevens Memorial Chapel obituary, Ames, Story County, Iowa:

Kenneth George Nelson, 76, passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 20, 2017.

Kenny was born on August 25, 1940 in Slater, Iowa to Kermode and Helen (Davis) Nelson. He graduated from Slater High School in 1958. Shortly after graduation, Kenny was drafted and stationed in Korea, honorably serving in the US Army. Kenny married Pamela Greenfield of Webster City, on June 7, of 1963. Kenny and Pam raised 3 children, Deana, Joe, and Gail. Kenny and Pam were married for 33 years until Pam's death on May 5, 1996. He retired after 33 years from Firestone Tires in 1997. He was a proud member of local 310.

As a mostly life-long Slater resident, Kenny played baseball for the Night Hawks, coached little league, served as a Civil Defense Coordinator, and was a volunteer on the Slater Fire Department for 23 years.

Kenny was united in marriage to Jan Jorgensen on November 24th, 1998. Kenny and Jan shared 18 years of marriage. He enjoyed retirement by attending auctions, toy sales, watching NASCAR, old westerns, movies and Iowa Hawkeye football.

Kenny was a strong man who deeply loved his friends and family. He was a protector of those he loved, and a more loyal and generous soul could not be found. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his wife, Jan Nelson of Slater, children Deana (Brian) Kerkove of Ankeny, Joseph Nelson of West Des Moines, Gail (Paul) Kenkel of Story City, Jan's children Kim (Jason) Hambly of Vinton, Todd (Nicole) Jorgensen of Gilbert and grandchildren Madison Kerkove, Megan Hambly, Logan Jorgensen and Luke Jorgensen.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents Kermode and Helen Nelson, his wife Pam Nelson, sister Harriet Olson, and brother Larry Long.
There will be no visitation or memorial services at Kenny's request.
