Lyle Lional Fitzgerald
December 5, 1926 - May 19, 2017

Lyle Fitzgerald, 90, passed away on May 19, 2017 at Bethany Life in Story City.

Lyle was born on December 5, 1926 to Forest and Mary Fitzgerald in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Lyle graduated from High School in Bremerton, WA in 1944.

Following graduation he joined the Army in 1945 and served his country in Korea during WWII, upon his return home Lyle married the love of his life Ardis Hall on 12/26/1949, and they were blessed with three children. Lyle then continued his education at Morning Side College in Sioux City, and then received his Master's from Drake in Des Moines, and he attended ISU for his post graduate education. Lyle worked as a Teacher and Coach in the Ames School System, he was instrumental in establishing the Ames High School Swimming program.

Lyle enjoyed woodworking, camping, reading, hiking, and gardening. In his younger years Lyle could be seen square dancing with Ardis. His love for teaching extended well beyond his career and he taught many children growing up in the Ames area how to swim. Lyle was dedicated to the church and his family.

Lyle will be remembered by those who knew him for always wanting to make people smile, his devotion to God, and giving through his volunteer work.

Lyle is survived by his sons, Dan (Sue Fitzgerald) of Minneapolis, MN; Randy (Cathy) of Ames, IA; and Scott (Kim) of Albuquerque, NM; and grandchildren Cori (Randy and Cathy), Zach and Aidan (Scott and Kim).

Lyle is preceded by his wife Ardis; sisters, Betsy, Bea and Lillie Mae; brothers, Fredie, Donald, and Everet.
