Steve Christian, 89, of Ames, passed away at home May 23, 2017. Services will be held at a later date in Greece, where he will be buried in the family cemetery.

Steve Christian was born December 6, 1927 to John and Katerini (Stavropoulos) Christophilopoulos in Kallevia, Greece. Steve had been a naturalized citizen of the United States for over 50 years and was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Des Moines. He married Christine Smead in Nevada, Iowa and was self-employed as a restaurateur, operating George's Pizza in Ames for 30 years and Charlie's Pizza in Forest City for 12 years.

Steve is survived by his wife, Christine Christian of Ames; his children, Mike Christian-Hand of Purvis, Miss., John (Yvonne) Christian of Denver, Colo., Katherine (Lyle) Batton of Thief River Falls, Minn., and George (Valerie) Christian of Wilmington, N.C.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his sister, Stathia, who still resides in Greece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity or church of your choosing.
