OBITUARY

MRS. M. C. SMITH

Mrs. M. C. Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota died at her home there June 11th, 1907 of pneumonia after an illness of six days, at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was born in Smyrna, New York, the year 1834 July 1st; and at the age of 11 years came to Illinois with parents and brothers, settling in Will county, near Chicago; living there until 1857, when she moved to Minnesota with her husband George Smith. Being a pioneer, and living near or within Minneapolis, she noted the growth of the great city since its beginning.

She was a member of the Westminster church of Minneapolis, and Dr. John Edward Bushnell, pastor of her church, gave an able funeral address, very comforting to the friends, dwelling on "the beautiful life she led, and the sweet influences which would live after her." She leaves four children, three sons and one daughter She made her home with the daughter, Mrs. Emma A. Smith Stanchfield. The funeral was held at her residence, 10 E. 37th street. She was the eldest sister of R. W. Ballard and Mrs. H. H. Boyes of Howard township, also of Mrs. H. F. Ferguson of Story City, and of H. D. Ballard of Webster City, Iowa All but the former brother attended her funeral on the 14th of June, 1907 at Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in beautiful "Lakewood Cemetery."

Besides the above mentioned brothers and sisters she leaves two brothers in Missouri, H. L. Ballard and D. P. Ballard and S. A. Ballard of Story City, also a sister, Mrs. O. M. Robbins, who lives in southeastern Kansas.
