Mrs. L. H. Beckley of Cambridge was in the city today and mentioned the death of her brother-in-law, Mr. G. W. Toms, who died at Marion on November 16 at the ripe age of 88 years, 6 months and 27 days. Mr. Tom had been a frequent visitor to relatives and friend in this county and his widow, who was formerly Mrs. J. G. Beckley of this county, has a wide circle of friends here. Mr. Toms was a native of Pennsylvania, where he was born in 1818, and he came to Iowa in 1867. He was married to his surviving wife in 1881.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: George Washington Toms' "surviving wife" was Sarah E. McCreary who married (1) Jacob G. Beckley on 1 October 1855 in Knox County, Ohio and (2) George W. Toms on 16 June 1881 in Nevada, Story County, Iowa.
