OBITUARY

Death of Mrs. Guilf Mullen*, formeraly of this county, died on Friday, October 12, at the family home near Plankington, South Dakota, aged sixty-eight years. Her illness had been only of a few weeks duration but it is understood that when Mr. Mullen returned hoe from his attendance here upon the reunion of the Third Iowa he found her ill. Mrs. Mullen's maiden name was Mary Halley, and she was born in Madison county, Ohio, in 1838. She came with her family to Story county in 1859, the family locating in the Mullen Settlement, and she was there married to Mr. Mullen August 30, 1866. They made their home in the same neighborhood and there continued to reside until about twelve or thirteen years ago, when they removed to South Dakota. The body was brought to Maxwell Saturday evening, and the funeral was conducted Sunday afternoon at the Summit church in the Settlement by Rev. White of Maxwell. Mrs. Mullen was a most estimable and home-loving woman, the mother of eight children, six of whom with her husband survive her, and her death brings grief to many old-time friends in this vicinity.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Mary Isabelle Halley was married to Guilford "Guilf" Mullen on 30 August 1866 in Story County, Iowa.
