Mrs. H. L. Swafford is expected home this evening from Iowa City whither she was called ten days ago by the death of her mother, Mrs. Joseph Lodge. Mrs. S. was at Minneapolis attending the G. A. R. reunion when the sad summons came.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: "Mrs. H. L. Swafford" was Mary Elizabeth Lodge, wife of Homer Lewis Swafford. The deceased mentioned was actually the step-mother of Mrs. Swafford. Her mother was Catharine Hoffman who died on 9 January 1867. Her father, Joseph Lodge, remarried Isabella (Hiatt) Nichols on 17 August 1868 in Poweshiek County, Iowa.
