OBITUARY

DEATH OF MRS. BERT BATMAN

Mrs. Alta May Batman, wife of C. A. Batman, deputy auditor of the county, died at their home in this city Tuesday evening about eight o'clock, aged 31 years, 6 months and 2 days. Mrs. Batman had been critically ill for several weeks and though quite recently she appeared to be somewhat better, yet there was in her condition very little basis for substantial hope of her recovery. She was taken worse Monday evening and continued in an unconscious state until her death.

The deceased was the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Morse, and she was born at Bloomington, Wisconsin, August 28, 1877. She removed with the family to Maxwell when she was six years old, and again to Nevada when her father came here to assume the duties of county clerk at the beginning of 1891, since which time she had lived at or near Nevada. She attended the Nevada High School and spent a year in college at Mt. Vernon. She was married to Clarence Albert Batman at Nevada on November 21, 1900, and they have since had their home either at the Batman homestead in Nevada or at the Morse farm northeast of Nevada. She leaves her husband, a little daughter Deborah not quite two years old, her parents, four sisters and a brother, and other relatives. She was a member of the P. E. O. Chapter and of the Kensington club, and she was exceedingly beloved among all who were at all near to her. She was a young woman of very exceptional sweetness of disposition, and the tributes which are paid to her character by those who knew it are the rarest and the best.

From Nevada Representative March 10, 1909

Mrs. Edna Morse Burch left Tuesday morning for her home at Iola, Kansas, having been called back here recently on account of the illness and subsequent death of her sister, Mrs. Bert Batman.
