SOUTH NEW ALBANY
Saturday Mr. John York of West Marshall county received a telegram from Mankato, Minn., informing him that his brother James had shot and killed four of his children, then killed himself. Despondency over the death of his wife was supposed to have caused insanity. The Yorks were a well known family in west Marshall and east Story counties 25 or 30 years ago.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: John Henry York and James E. York were the sons of John B. York and Sarah Harrison. Minnesota death records state James E. York died on 12 January 1909 in Blue Earth County, Minnesota as did four of his children: Earl, Nina, Vera and Zula. The wife of James E. York was Armentia Jane Kline who had died the year previous 21 February 1908 also in Blue Earth County, Minnesota.
