DEATH OF CLAYTON PAXTON

Clayton Edward Paxton died about 5:30 p. m. Wednesday at the home in this city of his father-in-law, Mr. Frank Curtiss, after an illness of six weeks with typhoid fever. The end was not a great surprise; for it had been known for a week or more that his condition was desperate; but the end had been fought off for so many days, that the hope had begun to be entertained on the outside that he might eventually rally. His, however, was the too frequent case of one who is taken very seriously ill, rallies satisfactorily, presumes too far, upon returning to strength and suffers a relapse, against which friend, nurses and physicians struggle most vigilantly but with increasing discouragement and ultimate failure. He was taken ill a little more than six weeks ago at his home in Maywood, a suburb of Chicago, and immediately upon his llness being pronounced typhoid, his wife got him aboard train and brought him to her parental home in Nevada. He progressed well here for three weeks and considered himself convalescent, when matters turned for the worse, and for the past three weeks he has been occasional slightly better but generally distinctly worse, until finally his strength was exhausted.

The deceased was born at Ames on July 14, 1877 and died at Nevada on December 9, 1908, aged 31 years, 4 months and 25 days. Nearly all his life was spent in Story county. He grew up at Ames, attended for a couple of years at the State College, found various employment at Ames, came to Nevada a little more than six years ago and was for several months in the First National Bank; took a place in the Northwestern freight office on the first of the following January and was later transferred to the office of general auditor of the Northwestern system at Chicago, where he continued to be employed until his final illness. He was married at the Curtiss home in this city on October 25, 1905, to Miss Gertrude Curtiss, and they have since lived in their own home at Maywood, Chicago. he was a young man of worth, attractiveness and promise, and his death is a terrible grief to his family and friends. He leaves his wife, his mother, Mrs. Rachel Paxton of Ames, two younger brothers, and a host of most sincere friends.

The body was viewed by friends at the Curtiss home Thursday afternoon and was taken this morning to his mother's home at Ames, where the funeral will be held tomorrow by Rev. Minchin of the Congregational church of Ames. The intement will be in the cemetery at Ames.

The funeral of the late Clayton Paxton was largely attended Saturday at his mother's home in Ames. The services were conducted by Rev. Minchin and the pall-bearers were young men from the Northwestern offices in Chicago, where he had been employed. Among the floral offerings also there was a very large and beautiful one from his late business associates there. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Bishop were among those who went over from Nevada to the funeral.
