From Nevada Representative September 18, 1908
Miss Letta Simmons, principal of the high school received word Thursday of the death of her father, Edward Simmons, which occurred Wednesday night at Ortonville, South Dakota, he being temporarily away from his home at Summit, in that state. He had been in uncertain health for some time; but a letter which she received from him on Monday of this week reported him as feeling better than for some time. He died after a serious illness on only eighteen hours. He had in the earlier years in Dakota lived at Brookings, and it was there that Mrs. Simmons died and was buried. His funeral will therefore be at Brookings, and for that place Miss Simmons left last evening, accompanied by her uncle, A. M. Ringheim. Mr. Simmons was a widower, and Miss Letta is his only surviving child. Besides his daughter, he leaves two brothers at Crookston, Minnesota, and a half sister at Canton, South Dakota. Miss Simmons, who had made her home in Nevada with her aunts, the Misses Ringheim, since the death of her mother, visited her father at Summit only a few weeks ago.
