Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.

Robert Wendell Nelson, 75, of Huxley, Iowa passed away February 13, 2017 at Bethany Life Communities in Story City. He was born June 13, 1941 to Bennie and Evelyn (Hokanson) Nelson in Kennedy, Minnesota. He married Mary Catherine Rowan on March 6, 1965 in Moorhead, Minn. Bob was a graduate of North Dakota State University, employed for 37 years as a mechanical engineer at John Deere in Waterloo, and held patents on a number of their product designs. In his retirement, he loved yard work, his crossword puzzles, and being a proud and loving Papa to his grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary of Huxley; his children, Ben (Micki) Nelson of Ames and Sarah (Paul) Doak of Ankeny; grandchildren, Maxwell and Evelyn Nelson, and Madison and Rease Doak; three brothers, Jim (Sandy) Nelson, Larry Nelson and Paul (Mavis) Nelson; his sisters, Becky (Harlan) Neuberger, Bonnie Johnson, Carol Drake, Jeanie Spilde and Hazel (Floyd) Hansen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, Wayne, Clare, and Floyd Nelson; and two sisters, infant Susan, and Corrine Gunnarson.

A private service for family members being held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the family or to a charity of choice in Bob's honor.
