Death of Two Ames Pioneers

P. C. Compton of Ames died at his home in that city on Sunday of last week aged more than 86 years. Mr. Compton was a man of excellent education and of versatile talents. In his younger days he had been an editor, a teacher and a lawyer, and he had also gotten up several inventions. He was an abolitionist in youth and was one of the founders of the Republican party; but in his later years he was a Democrat and he held office under Grover Cleveland. He had been a resident of Ames since 1868.

J. L. McKim, another old resident of Washington township died at his home in Ames the last of the week. He lived for many years southwest of that city and for the past few years had been in the fourth ward.
