Joyce Arlene Thorson was born on July 3, 1925 near Stanhope to Jesse and Ethel (Steele) Olson. She married James “Jim” Thorson on September 12, 1944. He died July 15, 2013. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joys.

Joyce died January 17, 2017 at Bethany Manor in Story City at the age 91.

Joyce is survived by her son Richard (Becky) Thorson of rural Story City; daughters, Sharon Thorson of Longmont, CO and Janet Boehme of Ames; seven grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Curran of Spring Valley, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Alice Carpenter, Fern Murphy and Virginia Cain; and two brothers, LaVerne Olson and Elling Olson.

Memorials may be made to Heartland Senior Services.
