Death of Diana Day Ross

Mrs. Diana Day Ross, widow of the late Thomas J. Ross of this city and of Great Bend, Kansas, died on Sunday last at her home in Des Moines and was buried here on Wednesday afternoon. More extended notice was prepared but accidentally mislaid and will appear in next issue.

OBITUARY

Death of Diana Day Ross.

Mrs. Diana Day Ros, widow of the late Thomas J. Ross of this city and of Great Bend, Kansas, died on February 13 and was buried in Nevada February 15. The funeral was held in Des Moines and there was only a prayer by Rev. Hunter at the grave here. Those accompanying the body from Des Moines were her brothers, William Day of Boone and Charlie M. Day of Alton, Illinois, and her sister, Mrs. Amy Lamb of Des Moines.

The deceased was one of the younger members of a large family, the father being William Day, who came to Nevada in 1867 and made their home for along time in this vicinity, the children growing up here and scattering to homes of their own. Diana was born at Waterford, Ohio, March 27 1854, and died as stated at Des Moines, Iowa, February 13, 1910, aged 55 years, 10 months and 15 days. Coming to Nevada in her girlhood, she soon became a successful teacher in the country schools and later was equally successful as a dressmaker. Sometime in the '80s she removed to Great Bend, Kansas, where she ran a dress-making establishment and where about 1894 she became the second wife of T. J. Ross, who was also from Nevada and had been living at Great Bend for several years. About six years later she became a widow, and since then she had made her home in Des Moines, where she was member of the Westminister Presbyterian church. She had no children and other members of her father's family not already mentioned are Mrs. Ellen Bennett of Albany, Illinois, and George B. Day of Dallas, South Dakota.

Another brother, Alfred, died at Cedar Rapids about five years ago. The father died and was buried here about thirty years ago, and beside him his youngest daughter is now buried. It does not appear that she ever returned to Nevada after her removal nearly twenty-five years ago; but she had here many friends in other years, and her death will be noted by them with regret.
