OBITUARY
Death of Mrs. David Smay
Mrs. Sarah Jane Smay, an early resident of Story county died Tuesday, September 28th, 1909, at her home in Colo, aged nearly seventy-nine years, and her funeral was conducted Thursday, the 30th at Johnson's Grove by her former pastor, Rev. Boreman.
Sarah Jane Loucks was born in Indiana, was there married to David Smay, and came with him to Story county and settled at Johnsons Grove forty-six years ago. There they reared their family and there Mr. Smay died in 1888. A few year after his death, Mrs. Smay and her daughter, Miss Viola, removed their home in Colo. There her days passed in comfort till about three months ago when a fall which broke her arm and otherwise injured her, brought on a decline which terminated only with her death. Two of her six children have preceded her to be other shore, namely Mrs. Albert Apple, and Miss Georgiana Smay. The survivors besides Miss Viola already named, are Charles, on the home farm at Johnsons Grove, Mrs. Will Mead in the same neighborhood, and Wesley at Parsons, Kansas. A brother and two sisters also reside at Parsons, and the sisters spent eight weeks with Mrs. Smay shortly before her death. The deceased was an eminently worthy woman of whom kindliest memories are retained.
