Gone to a Better Clime
Last Tuesday night the death messenger came into the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Corneliussen, taking from them their eldest daughter, Carrie Ruth, who had been stricken with the dread disease consumption. Over two years ago she was taken to New Mexico in hopes of regaining her health. In the early part of the summer she came home to spend the remaining days in the circle of loved ones. Tender and loving hearts did everything for her comfort that was possible, while she gradually and beautifully faded away like the autumn leaf.
Carrie Ruth Corneliussen was born at the county seat of Story county, Oct. 15, 1876, and was one month less than thirty-three years of age at the time of her death. In addition to good common school education she took special training in an art school in Chicago, and leaves many specimens of art and needlework, as evidence of her genius in the line of fine art. She was of a conservative, but kind and gentle disposition, she had very artistic taste and love the beautiful, and had a high sense of right and moral integrity. She was in the true sense of the word a young lady of refinement and culture. The most of her life was spent in Story City. The day before her death she gave evidence of the usual conditions of health, at time conversing quite freely with her parents concerning bygone years.
About eleven o'clock in the night her breathing became very difficult, and before medical aid could arrive she passed away to the better world where there is no pain or sickness. Early in the day she had expressed desire to be at home with God. Her loved ones will miss her sweet and beautiful fellowship greatly.
Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon in the Evangelical church of Story City by the undersigned. She leaves deeply bereaved parents, one sister and a brother besides many other relatives and friends to mourn her early departure. May God grant all a glad reunion in the glory world!
