OBITUARY

DEATH OF GEORGE JONES

A Veteran of the Third Iowa

George Jones, an early settler of the western part of the county died at the home two miles south of the State College a few days ago in the 77th year of his age. He settled in Story county in 1856, enlisted in May 1861 in Company "E", Third Iowa Infantry and served until the close of the war when he settled on the farm upon which he died. He was a faithful soldier and citizen as well, highly respected by his comrades and by all who knew him.

He had bee in failing health for several months, but able to be about and attend to his affairs. On the day of his death he telephoned to his physician to come out and bring a notary public and upon arriving at his home they found him about the house and he looked up the necessary papers and property executed them. A few moments after the doctor and notary reached town they received the message that he was dead. He leaves a wife and one married daughter.
