ACCIDENTALLY KILLED

Martin Langland of Roland Shot with Target Rifle in Hands of Little Child Monday Afternoon

Martin Langland of Roland, an estimable young man about 23 years of age, was accidentally killed late Monday afternoon at the home Henry Nelson five miles north and west of that place in Hardin county. Langland and Iver Norem, another young man from Roland, had driven up from Roland and were spending a few hours a the Nelson home, and they had borrowed for the trip a 22-caliber target rifle. Arriving at the Nelson place they and the Nelson young people indulged in target shooting, and the put the rifle back in the rig, supposing that all the cartridges were out of it. Later one of the Nelson children got hold of the rifle and in handling it fired a cartridge that had by mistake been left in the rifle. The shot struck Langland in the temple, and he fell unconscious and remained unconscious until his death a half hour later.

Martin Langland was nest to youngest son of the late Ole Langland, long one of the most prominent farmers of Howard township, and he had lived in and about Roland all his life. He was looked upon as one of the worthy young men of that community and his tragic death is a great shock and a great sorrow among a wide circle of friends.
