OBITUARY

DEATH OF MRS. CORRINGTON

Mrs. Amanda Harriet Corrington, wife of Benton Corrington, died at twenty minutes past six this morning at their home in this city after a brief illness with acute meningitis. Her illness, dated only from Sunday, when she complained of a pain in her left ear. Early Monday morning the gathering there broke, and the poison therefrom ran toward and occasioned the acute trouble noted. She lost consciousness Tuesday noon and continued to fail from that time. From midnight on she appeared to be dying, and the end came a stated. Her illness was so brief that it had not become generally known that she was ill at all and her death is a great shock and surprise to her many friends in this community.

Mrs. Corrington was the daughter of John R. and Mary Porter, and she was born in Montgomery county, Indiana, February 21, 1840. She was married there to Benton Corrington June 22, 1869; and she died as noted at Nevada, Iowa, February 26, 1908, aged 59 year and 5 days. Her girlhood was spent at her parental home in Indiana; and upon her marriage she removed to her husband's home near Peoria, Illinois, where they lived upon a farm until 1874. They then removed to Story county, Iowa, and settled upon their farm in Grant township a few miles southwest of Nevada. It was there that they had the sensational incident of having their home blown to pieces about them and themselves carried for a considerable distance in the famous Grinnell cyclone of 1882, which storm hit a few spots in Story county before passing on to work of greatest destruction at Grinnell. They survived the peril of this incident, however, without great harm, and after rebuilding their home they continued to reside upon the farm for several years. They removed after a time, however to Nevada, where they have since resided. Mrs. Corrington was a woman of high personal worth, and she was very greatly esteemed by all who came within the circle of her acquaintance. She will be much and sincerely mourned. Her nearest surviving relatives besides her husband are her sister, Mrs. J. F. Linn, of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and her brothers James A. and John Porter, the former also of Crawfordsville, and the latter of Lents, Oregon. The sister and both the brothers have at one time or another been residents of Nevada and are known to many friends here. Mrs. Corrington's nephew, W. Arthur Porter of Moline, arrived with his wife on the 3:30 a. m. train this morning, having made a quick trip from their home after being advised of Mrs. Corrington's illness; and Mrs. Linn and her daughter, Mrs. Ella Gerard, who have been spending the winter with their son and brother, Rev. Otis Linn at Roseville, California, started from there last night and will be here for the funeral, which will be delayed on their account.

The funeral will be conducted from Presbyterian church next Saturday afternoon at half past two o'clock.
