From Nevada Representative May 30, 1920 (page 6)
MRS. W. S. DODGE
Mittie E. Corning was born at Calledonia, Illinois, March 20, 1861, and after twenty weeks of patient suffering, answered the call to the great beyond, May 15, 1920, at 6:15 a. m., at the family home in this city, aged 59 years, 1 month and 25 days.
When a child two and one-half years of age, she became a resident with her parents, of Cedar Falls, Ia., at which place her childhood days were spent, and where, on Christmas day, 1882, she was united in marriage to W. S. Dodge.
To this union, two children were born, Vera E., who only graced this world a few short months, and Mrs. Blanche, now Mrs. Loren Wall, who with her father and husband, supplemented by the comforting presence and ministrations of a sister, Mrs. Nettie Boggess, of Long Beach, Calif., did all the loving hands would do to stay the hand of death and make her last hours comfortable.
Besides the husband, daughter and sister, who were with her at the time of death, she leaves to mourn her loss, three brothers, N. A. Corning of Kansas City, I. D. Corning and B. J. Corning of Cedar Falls, and a sister, Mrs. Dave McDonald, of Cedar Falls, and a host of loving friends.
In the more than thirty-two years of her residence in Nevada, Mrs. Dodge was always actively interested in the better things of life. She was faithful member of the Presbyterian church and its auxiliary branches, the Aid and Missionary societies, was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and one of the staunch supporters of the Woman's Relief Corps. No work was ever too great for her to undertake; no work ever too small to receive her most careful attention.
The husband, daughter and other relatives will receive the deepest sympathy from the large circle of friends, neighbors and acquaintances, in this their hour of great bereavement.
Funeral services were held at the home in this city Sunday afternoon, at four o'clock, with her pastor, Rev. J. George Walz, in charge. The Woman's Relief Corps attended in a body.
The remains were taken Monday morning to Cedar Falls, where services were held at Dahl's undertaking parlors at two o'clock p. m., and thence she was laid to rest in the beautiful city of the dead by the side of the little daughter who went before.
