OBITUARY
Death of Mrs. Mary Belcher
Mrs. Mary Belcher died last Friday at her home in Iowa Center after an illness of several weeks and a decline that had run through the winter. She was well past eighty years of age and one of the pioneers of Story county. With her husband, John Belcher, she came in the county about 1853 and settled upon the farm in Indian Creek that has since been the family homestead. Her husband died many years ago; but she has continued to live in the old neighborhood and has furnished a home for a crippled and unfortunate son, "Bill." Her life has been a long one of usefulness and sacrifice, and she had many mourners where she was known. Her maiden name was Hizer and she was an aunt of Frank Hizer of Nevada. Harry Belcher, also of this city, was one of her grandchildren.
