Dorothy Ellen Smith, 81, of Nevada, was called home to the Lord Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Story County Medical Center in Nevada after a battle with cancer.

Dorothy was born March 4, 1935, in Colo the daughter of John O. and Mary A. (Cooper) Dawson. She graduated from Colo High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to Marion E. Smith on January 30, 1954, in Zearing. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada who loved cooking, entertaining family and friends and good conversation. Above all, Dorothy loved her family and cherished the time spent with them.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Teresa Seibert of Ankeny; her granddaughter, Shannon (Derek) Denucce of Waukee and their children Bruin and Cameron and her granddaughter, Kristie (Reece) Viet of Ankeny and their children Paisley and Benson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and three sisters: Dorene Hemping, Doris Staker and Donna Sayers.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, August 18 at Rasmusson-Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 19 at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Chris Waddle officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. at the Colo Cemetery in Colo.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family, the American Cancer Society, the Nevada First United Methodist Church or Story County Medical Center.
