Obituary of Mrs. Alice Sheldahl

Mrs. Sheldahl was born in Mosterhayen, Norway, May 5, 1838. She immigrated to this country in the year 1858, came direct to Story City and lived there for one year. On Dec. 24, 1859, she was united in marriage to Erick Sheldahl and moved to a farm near Huxley, where they lived until the year 1895, when they moved to Cambridge. In the year 1902 her husband passed away at the age of 87 years. Twelve children were born to this union, of which seven are still living. Four died in infancy and one son died at the age of 16 years. Those living are Erick Sheldahl of Des Moines, Louis Sheldahl of Buena Vista, Colo., Henry Sheldahl of Huxley, Mrs. M. N. Grove of Roland, Ia., Mrs. Ersland of Oldham, S. D., Mrs. Apland of South Dakota and Osmund Sheldahl of South Dakota. She was also the mother of five step-children, Mrs. Tesdal of Huxley, Mrs. Weeks and Mrs. Wing of Cambridge, Mrs. Fritz of Cambridge, who died in the year 1889, and Mrs. Christenson of Hendricks, Minn. She also has two sisters, Mrs. Thompson of Minnesota, and Mrs. Amlund of Story City.

She was almost 81 years at the time of her death, and was patiently waiting for her Lord to call her home. The last three years of her life were spent at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M. N. Grove, where the anxious household of that home did everything they could to offer their best assistance and to comfort her during her last days on this earth. The journey of her life is a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers not thorns, sunshine not shadow did she scatter every where. Truth was the inspiration of her life and by kindness she exemplified its great worth. God was her idol and to Him did she cling at all times. May the memory of her life be indelibly imprinted on our life to such degree that we, who learned to know her, can meet her with her Savior, when our summons is called.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. N. Grove last Friday and interment took place in the Palestine cemetery near [the remainder of this sentence is unreadable.]
