Mrs. Matha [sic] Simmons was born in Skaanevig, Norway on March 25, 1828. She came to Lisbon, Illinois in 1857 where she was married to Bjorn Simmons and later moved to Roland where her husband died 25 years later. Mrs. Simmons had 6 children of which 3 survive, namely Jacob Simmons, Clinton W.,; Same Simmons, Roland, and Mrs. O. L. Johnson in McCallsburg.

Mrs. Simmons left 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
